# ScrollGuard

> ScrollGuard is a free mobile app for Android and iOS that removes addictive short-form video feeds from social media apps, including Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Facebook Reels, X feeds, and more, while keeping messaging, stories, and everything else fully functional. Users don't need to delete apps or go cold turkey. ScrollGuard removes the addictive parts so they can use social media on their own terms.

## What ScrollGuard Does

Social media apps are designed to keep users scrolling through short-form video feeds for hours. ScrollGuard solves this by selectively blocking only the addictive content feeds while preserving the features people actually need: messages, DMs, stories, posts, long-form videos, and notifications.

Unlike screen time tools that lock entire apps or set timers, ScrollGuard targets the root cause: the algorithmic feeds themselves. The result is that users can open Instagram to check a DM without losing 45 minutes to Reels, or watch a specific YouTube video without getting pulled into Shorts.

## Supported Apps

ScrollGuard works across the most popular social media platforms:

- **Instagram**: blocks Reels and Explore feed, keeps DMs, Stories, and posts
- **YouTube**: blocks Shorts, keeps long-form videos, subscriptions, and search
- **TikTok**: blocks the For You feed (Android); blocks the For You, Following and Explore feeds, with a Messages only mode (iOS)
- **Facebook**: blocks Reels and video feeds, keeps Messenger and posts
- **X (Twitter)**: blocks the Home and Explore feeds, hides the Grok and Notifications tabs (iOS)
- **Snapchat**: blocks Spotlight and the Stories tab
- **Reddit**: blocks video feeds
- **LinkedIn**: blocks short-form video content

App availability varies by platform. Android supports all listed apps. iOS currently supports Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Reddit, and LinkedIn.

## Who ScrollGuard Is For

- People who lose hours daily to Reels or Shorts and want to stop
- Students who need to focus during study sessions or exam periods
- Professionals who get distracted by social media during work hours
- Parents looking for a way to make social media safer for their family
- Anyone who has tried deleting apps but came back because they missed messaging and connections

## Key Features

- **Selective blocking**: removes only short-form video feeds, not entire apps
- **Multi-app support**: works across Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Snapchat, Reddit, and LinkedIn
- **Scroll detection (Android)**: optional alerts when scrolling becomes excessive, with adjustable sensitivity (Chill, Normal, Strict, or Custom modes)
- **Scheduled Breaks (Android)**: time-based allow-windows (e.g. Sunday 7pm to 9pm) that pause blocking during chosen periods and lock back automatically
- **Uninstall lock (Android)**: prevents the app from being uninstalled in a moment of weakness, useful for users who want a stronger commitment
- **Time saved insights (iOS)**: built on Apple's Screen Time data, shows how much time blocking has reclaimed across days, weeks, and months
- **Adult content blocker (iOS)**: optional web content filter that uses Apple's filter to block adult sites in all browsers on iPhone, including Safari and Chrome. Disabling it requires a 24 hour cooldown and a typed confirmation phrase
- **Always on**: runs silently in the background with minimal battery impact
- **On-device processing**: all detection and blocking happens locally, no data sent to servers
- **No ads**: the app itself contains no advertisements

## Privacy

ScrollGuard processes everything on-device. It does not track browsing behavior, does not collect usage analytics, does not sell data, and does not communicate with external servers for content detection. Users maintain full control over their data.

## Pricing

ScrollGuard is free to download and the core blocking functionality works without paying. Optional premium features include per-app customization, custom scroll detection thresholds, and additional controls. Premium is available as a monthly subscription, annual subscription, or one-time lifetime purchase.
